2015-2017 30-Sep-20 New Plot Installation
First couple years could not get anything established...deer would destroy food plots killing sprouts before they could get up. Then tried the chemical soak for ribbon that smelled like sulfur and it had limited effect. Next I talked to biologist and told me to run two strands around edge of field planted about 2 feet apart (knee high and waist high) and a single strand 3 feet out from that that is in between those two strands. He told me for max effectiveness to hang ribbons on outside wire and to also put a spoon of peanut butter in tinfoil every 50 feet on outside wire. I added milorganite every 2 weeks the first month as backup. I had zero deer intrusions that I could identify and soybeans got up nearly waist hight. Deer were there immediately and shot my first velvet buck after being born and mostly raised here until I was 20...and since retiring from military in 2004. Will add some pics of the fields. 97 acres, 4 main foodplots but also shooting range that is also a foodplot...a pond, 3 wet areas that hold water if not a drought, 30 acres of mixed hardwoods along creek/ditch through center and rest is planted pines.

Deer killed it all...only grass would come up after seeds sprouted. No ag nearby only planted pines for about 600-800 acres surrounding me...so they would ravish my fields.

Did chemical tape fence and helped but found out soil too acidic and needed 4k lbs of lime per square acre...so did that in off season. Bucks started coming around even with minimal food available...was better than nothing and had plenty of does and yearlings bedding in young pines.

Added lime...put up fence again...got better growth but deer were jumping fence or going under and still eating. With humidity, rain, etc...the chemical did not deter them good enough. More deer being seen and some decent ones too. Also turkeys but also coyotes showed up.
